Preparation List Before Surgery
The thought of surgery can be daunting. Now you want to make sure that you are in your best condition for it. Although the preparation depends on the type of surgery, these are some basic advice you can prepare yourself for. If you are not sure, always consult your doctor or surgeon.
1) Eating & Drinking
Normally a day before the surgery, your doctor would advice to not eat or drink after a specific time. But it is recommended to eat the right nutrients to boost your immune system and help you heal faster.
2) Medicines
Before surgery, you will be advised to stop taking medicines that might result in blood clot which could prolong bleeding during your surgery. Some of the medicines include Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Naxproxen and many more. Ask from your doctor what medicines is required and avoid taking any supplements, herbs, vitamins or minerals unless you are advised to.
3) Washing of your skin
It is ideal to have yourself in a proper hygiene. That means, you should take a shower the night before and the morning of surgery and don't forget to clean your fingernails. You may use medicated soap provided by your doctor or antibacterial soap.
4) Check for symptoms

Check for symptoms such as skin rashes or infections, chest pain or shortness of breath, cough, fever, cold and flu. If you have any of these symptoms, inform your doctor right away so he is aware of your condition before the procedure.
5) Items to pack
These are just some basic items you can prepare depending on the types of surgery and the post surgery.
Clothing items:
Flat walking shoes with rubber or crepe on the bottom
Shorts or sweatpants
T-shirt
Lightweight bath robe
Personal care items:
Eyeglasses (instead of contact lenses)
Toothbrush, toothpaste, and deodorant
Razor (electric only)
Other items:
Crutches, cane, or walker
Books or magazines
Important telephone numbers of friends and relatives
