Performed first Scarless Single Incision Laparoscopic Appendectomy in South East Asia for gangrenous appendicitis.

Performed the first three liver transplants in patients with portal vein thrombosis at NUH. This also included the only paediatric patient with portal vein thrombosis who also had hepatopulmonary syndrome with low PaO2. All of them were discharged well from the hospital.

Performed living donor hepatectomy and portal vein & hepatic vein anastomosis (liver implantation) for the first liver transplant in Indonesia, at Semarang.

Performed all the in-house, living donor hepatectomies for liver transplants while working at NUH, without any morbidity/mortality.

Performed laparoscopic cholecystectomy in patients with gangrenous gall bladder, cirrhotic patients and in patients with poor cardiac function (EF<30%). This has been done with 0% bile duct injury and maintaining a conversion rate in the region of 5%.

As Head of the Division at NUH, performed major surgeries such as Whipples procedure in patients with Hepatitis B Cirrhosis. On literature search in the English language, there were 4 such previously submitted cases and ours has been submitted as, perhaps the fifth case. In addition to this also performed major liver resections in similarly cirrhotic patients.
About Dr. Ravishankar K. Diddapur
Dr. Ravishankar Krishnamurthy Diddapur (Dr. Ravishankar) was appointed Associate Consultant of Liver Transplant and Hepatobiliary Surgery at the Singapore National University Hospital (NUH) in 2003. He was, at the same time, assigned the educational responsibility of Senior Clinical Lecturer at NUH. Shortly after, Dr. Ravishankar was promoted to Consultant in the same specialty, and introduced Laparoscopic Surgery for major hepatobiliary surgeries to NUH.
Dr. Ravishankar performed Singapore’s first-ever Laparoscopic Liver Resection and the country’s first minimally invasive Pancreatic Necrosectomy. Dr. Ravishankar then set-up and established the offering of Laparoscopic Hepatobiliary Surgeries at NUH, where today, this has become a renowned independent division at the hospital. During his consultancy at NUH, Dr. Ravishankar also performed complex liver transplants and paediatric liver transplants in patients with portal vein thrombosis and hepato-pulmonary syndrome. He performed all living donor hepatectomies for liver transplants and maintained a nil 30-day surgical mortality for all his elective surgeries at NUH. Previously, Dr. Ravishankar also received the Health Manpower Development Program Fellowship Award from the Ministry of Health, Singapore, which allowed him to further his expertise in Right Lobe Living Donor Liver Transplant.
Dr. Ravishankar moved to private practice in 2009, setting up specialist clinics at the Gleneagles Hospital in Orchard Road, and at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, in Singapore. Dr. Ravishankar practice provides a comprehensive list of laparoscopic and open surgeries, with the highest standards in care of quality, with excellent surgical outcomes. Performing all variations of abdominal surgeries laparoscopically both in elective and emergency settings with very low conversion rates, in 2009, Dr. Ravishankar performed the first Single Incision Scarless Laparoscopic Appendicectomy in South East Asia. Thereafter, Dr. Ravishankar continues to offer this unique surgery, both in acute and elective settings, for conditions such as acute appendicitis, hernia repair, gallstone disease, liver resection, liver cyst surgery, right hemicolectomy, left hemicolectomy, sigmoid colectomy, subtotal colectomy for various conditions inclusive of tumours, pancreatic resections, small bowel obstruction, small bowel adhesiolysis and small bowel resection, among others.
Dr. Ravishankar is extensively trained in the fields of Laparoscopic and Hepatobiliary surgeries, and in multi-organ transplant, specifically, the liver, kidney, pancreas and small bowel, in the United Kingdom. He obtained his U.K. CCST in General Surgery with sub-specialty interest in transplant. Dr. Ravishankar also exited his intercollegiate FRCS exams with transplant as a sub-specialty. Having obtained Hesperis Diploma in Transplantation from the European College of Transplantation, Dr. Ravishankar has even been featured on BBC Radio to speak about transplants.
Dr. Ravishankar was awarded his medical degree in 1986, obtaining a high first class with third rank to his university. He has obtained distinctions in his many subjects during this time and achieved awards and prizes in extra-curricular activities, some of which he represented at the national level. He was awarded the first prize by Warwick University for his work on research day and obtained his Masters in Surgery (MS General Surgery) from Bombay University before moving to U.K. for higher training.
Dr. Ravishankar lives in Singapore with family where his wife is also a doctor and senior consultant specialist.
